- Like all portait artists, I spend a long time getting to know my subjects well. My paintings can take as long as four months, from conception to completion, and my sculptures take even longer. I spend weeks in the field taking photographs before returning to my studio to paint. Research for my work has taken me all over the world, including Antarctica, South America, India and Africa. But it is for my renditions of British wildlife that I am best known. Both the RSPB and the National Trust sell prints of my paintings of foxes, owls, badgers and otters in their shops across the country. I favour a highly-detailed painting style which I believe captures the character of each bird or animal I portray. My love of wildlife comes from my upbrining on a farm on the Yorkshire Wolds, close to where I still live and work today. Many of the creatures featured in my paintings also live here. In fact some are old friends that I feed and care for in my own garden. In this blog I tell their stories.
